Our philosophy
Our Grooming Philosophy
At Four Paws & Claws, grooming happens one pet at a time. That is not a marketing
line — it shapes every appointment. While chain salons move dogs through on an assembly
line, often leaving animals in a cage between steps, our approach keeps your pet on the
table from start to finish with the same groomer from first brush to final dry. The result
is a shorter, calmer experience for the animal and a better outcome for the coat.
Patience is the core skill here. Breeds that are harder to handle, pets with a history
of grooming anxiety, and animals that have had bad experiences elsewhere are exactly who
this salon was built for. We slow down when a dog needs a break, adjust technique for
coats in rough condition, and work around the animal's comfort rather than a rigid
production schedule. If your pet has been turned away somewhere else or if you have
been nervous about booking, this is the place to call first. We have handled situations
that would send most chain groomers running — and we do it without drama.
Credentials
Training and Credentials
The lead groomer at Four Paws & Claws completed the grooming program at
Stautzenberger College — a formal, structured education that goes well beyond
watching YouTube tutorials or apprenticing informally. The curriculum covers breed
standards, scissoring and clipper technique, skin and coat health, proper restraint,
and the anatomy behind every cut. That foundation matters when a dog comes in with an
unusual coat condition, a breed-specific cut requirement, or a medical sensitivity
that the groomer needs to work around.
Alongside the Stautzenberger credential, the salon holds an American Red Cross animal
first-aid certification. Pet emergencies at the grooming table are rare, but the risk
is real — particularly for seniors and dogs with cardiovascular or respiratory
conditions. Knowing how to recognize distress, respond appropriately, and communicate
clearly with a vet while keeping an animal calm is a skill that separates a
professionally trained groomer from someone who learned on the job. Years of hands-on
experience at the salon reinforce both the formal training and the practical judgment
that textbooks alone cannot teach.
Cat specialist
Cat Grooming as a Core Specialty
Cat grooming is not a side service tacked on to fill appointment slots. It has been
part of the Four Paws & Claws offering since the salon opened, which makes this
one of the few grooming destinations in Cleveland where cats are genuinely welcome
and genuinely served well.
Pam Power handles cat grooming at the salon. Cat-specific grooming is its own
discipline — cats read stress signals differently than dogs, react faster to
overstimulation, and require a groomer who understands feline body language rather
than just applying dog-grooming technique to a different species. Pam works with that
reality. Appointments are structured to keep the cat's experience short, low-noise,
and as calm as possible. Services include baths, nail trims, full cut-bath-nail
appointments, and coat management for longer-haired breeds that develop mats or
excessive shedding. To book with Pam, call her directly at
(440) 537-2428.
Mobile grooming
Mobile Grooming with Melanie
Some pets cannot or should not travel to a salon. Senior dogs with joint pain, animals
with extreme anxiety triggered by car rides, and pets recovering from illness or surgery
all benefit from grooming that comes to them rather than the other way around.
That is exactly what Melanie White provides under the Four Paws & Claws umbrella.
Melanie operates Mel's Mobile Trims as a home-based grooming service. She brings the
equipment, the expertise, and the same patience-first approach that defines the salon —
directly to your driveway. For pets that have had stressful salon visits or owners who
simply prefer the convenience of an in-home appointment, mobile grooming removes the
biggest friction point entirely. Scheduling through Melanie is separate from the main
salon line. Reach her directly at (440) 429-9473 to
discuss your pet's needs, her service area, and availability. Mobile grooming fills
up quickly, so calling ahead is recommended.
